Mary Lou's Story
Mary Lou (Green) Van, 92, entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018.
Mary Lou was born and raised in Boardman, Ohio, and graduated from Boardman High School.
She worked at Sears Roebuck as an clerk for almost 20 years.
She was a member of Old North Church in Canfield, Ohio, for most of her adult life.
In 1979, she married Walter Van of New Castle and was married for almost 30 years when Walter passed at the age of 100.
Mary Lou was gifted with a beautiful voice and performed with a trio at Old North Church in Canfield and then with her husband, Walter Van, at various venues over a span of 28 years.
She was an active member at First Baptist Church in New Castle and then at First Baptist Church in Venice, Florida. She was an animal lover and adored all her grand-dogs.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, James Green and Anna Powell; brothers, Bill Green, Bob Green, Bud Green and Jimmy Green; sister, Ruthie Green; niece, Michelle Fryman; and her husband, Walter Van.
Mary Lou leaves behind her son, Joseph "Bud" Simkins; her daughter, Claudia (Simkins) Meredith; her sister, Janet (Gary) Fryman; and all her loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held in Venice, Florida, in February.
