Mary's Story

Mary D. Miksza, 93, of New Castle passed away the morning of Oct. 20, 2017, at the Avalon Nursing Home.
Mary was born Jan. 6, 1924, in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Jakob and Alexsandra Sergiej Gajda.
Mary was married to the late Stanley V. Miksza. He preceded her in death on Sept., 9, 2001. They were married for 57 wonderful years.
Mary was of the Roman Catholic faith and attended St Joseph the Worker Parish.
Mrs. Miksza was a graduate of Eastbrook High School, class of 1941. Mary continued her education at the New Castle School of Cosmetology.
She was the owner-operator of Mary D's Hair Salon in New Castle.
She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary was the past president of Lawrence County Hairdressers Association. She was a member of the Altar Society and VV Club at the former SS Philip and James Church. Mary was a member of the Polka Dots Card Club. She was a member of the Polish Falcons Nest 146. Mrs. Miksza was an avid bowler and bowled with the Falconettes.
Mrs. Miksza is survived by her daughter, Diana C. (Julian) Romanowski of Venice, Fla.; son, Daniel V. (Deborah) Miksza of New Castle; brother, Charles Gajda of Volant, Pa.; sister, Genevieve (Herb) McConahy of Volant; four grandchildren, Christopher, Sean, Leann and Jacob; and four great-grandchildren, Jaylee, C.J., Gianna and Addison.
In addition to her parents and husband Stanley, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Chester and John Gajda.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St.
A Blessing Service and Rite of Committal will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, in the funeral home. The Rev. Frank D. Almade, pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, will officiate. Burial will be in SS Philip and James Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking memorial donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 600 Waterfront Drive No. 210, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222.
