Mary E. Mitchell Mary E. Mitchell, 79, of Union Township passed away the evening of Jan. 19, 2019, at her residence.
Born July 22, 1939, in New Castle, she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Clements) Book.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Carl R. Mitchell, whom she married Sept. 9, 1967.
Mary was a 1957 graduate of New Castle High School. She was employed for 11 years by the City of New Castle as a school crossing guard until her retirement in 1999.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Carla (Elmer) Hill and Tammie Mitchell, all of New Castle; one son, Craig (Eva) Mitchell of Aliquippa; four grandchildren, Jessica, Jenna and Jakob Hill and Braydon Mitchell; and five sisters, Edna Anderson, Barbara Warsing, Betty Jane Uder, Carol Book and Sandra Hudack.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Donna Stanich.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. John Yergan officiating.
Entombment will be in Castle View Gardens.

God opened his arms and welcomed Mary into a much better place! Mary suffered way to long but always had her sense of humor and a beautiful smile for everyone!!!!
Mary will be badly missed by her husband Carl, her kids and grandchildren.
We will forever love and miss you. You’re with mom and dad in the beautiful home of HEAVEN.
