Milton Scheffter, 93, of Mount Airy, Md., formerly of New Castle, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Lorien Health Systems in Mount Airy, Md. Born on May 5, 1923, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of Charles Kellmer Scheffter and Blanche Ellen (Mooney) Scheffter. He was the husband of the late Virginia F. Scheffter.
Mr. Scheffter served in World War II for three years in the Army Air Corps, assisting with the treatment of wounded soldiers being evacuated from the battle zones and flown back to the Unites States. After his military service, he worked as an installer for Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania for 36 years. He did not cease his labors in retirement, however. For many years he worked as a volunteer with a county conservation organization and on a local farm as a handyman. He lived in New Castle, Pa., until his wife's passing in April 2009. Shortly afterwards he moved to Mount Airy, Md., to be closer to his son's family. Milton was a strong, independent man and a man of faith, having brought up his family in the Christian faith. He was a great influence on his children and many others through quiet kindness and selfless assistance. During his years in Mount Airy, he made countless toys for his family. He loved spending time with all of his family, including attending many family dinners at his son's house.
He is survived by son, Kenneth Edward Scheffter and his wife Barbara; daughter, Carol Ellen Nault and her husband John; four grandchildren, Jeanette Nault, Erin Sayers and her husband Luke, Lindsey Seiver and her husband Joe, and Becca Przybylek and her husband Charlie; four great-grandchildren, Scott and Rebecca Seiver and Ginny and Wally Przybylek. He was preceded in death by a brother Wendell Scheffter in 1976.
