Nicholas D. Catarcio
Nicholas D. Catarcio, 79, of New Castle passed away the morning of Sept. 18, 2019, at Allegheny General Hospital.
Born in Ellwood City on April 24, 1940, Nick was a son of the late Anthony C. and Annabelle M. Nocera Catarcio.
Preceding him in death on Jan. 30, 2016, was his loving wife of more than 47 years, the former Darlene M. Makarevich, whom he married on May 11, 1968.
He was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish.
Nick was a veteran of the Army.
He retired from the New Castle Transit Authority, where he worked as a driver. He had also worked at the Westinghouse Plant and, in his earlier years, had worked as an EMT for the Ed and Don DeCarbo Ambulance Service.
Nick was a 1958 graduate of New Castle High School and was an avid Notre Dame and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Nick loved spending time with his family. He was especially devoted to his two granddaughters, the loves of his life, and enjoyed attending all of their activities.
Nick will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Nichole Columbus and her husband, Doug, of New Castle; his granddaughters, Alexandra and Christina; his in-laws, who were like siblings to him, Patricia Torsello, Paul Makarevich, Pete and Sally Makarevich, William Makarevich and John Walko; his niece, Deanna Othites and husband, Mike; his nephew, Mark Torsello and wife, Shannon; and will also be sadly missed by his dog, Gidget.
Visitation will be held at 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vitus Site, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Anthony Sciarappa.
Entombment will take place at Castle View Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.decarbofuneralhome.com.
