Pastor Eugene's Story

Pastor Eugene R. McConnell, 56, of East Street, North Sewickley Township, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
Born Dec. 3, 1960, in Sewickley, he was a son of the late Kenneth H. and Phyllis Maeola Goddard McConnell.
Eugene graduated from Mohawk High School in 1979. He later furthered his education, graduating in 1991 with his bachelor's degree in Christian Ministries from Circleville Bible College.
He worked for the last 24 years in the sales department of Hovis Auto and Truck Supply. He also has been the pastor of the Union Goodwill Church for the past 17 years.
He was co-chairman of the Lawrence County Friends of the NRA. Eugene loved motorcycles, cars, shooting sports and golfing.
Survivors include two sisters, Vera Wilkins of Portland, Oregon, and Elaine (Pastor John) Mehaffey of Newell, West Virginia; three brothers, Kenneth W. (Diane) McConnell of Youngstown, Ohio, and Carl W. (Sheila) McConnell and Kevin (Lisa) McConnell, both of Bessemer; sister-in-law, Joanne McConnell of New Galilee; special friends, Wayne and Jeanann Gunther and their daughter, Tara, of New Castle; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clayton McConnell; a nephew, J.P. McConnell; and brother-in-law, Charles Wilkins.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Union Goodwill Church.
