Paul's Story

Paul Larry Marcella, 76, loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at his home in Cape Coral, Fla.
Paul Marcella was born in Bessemer, Pa., on Oct. 23, 1941, to Mildred and the late Paul Marcella and graduated from Mohawk High School in 1959.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the U.S.S. Ethan Allen (SSBN 608) out of the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Conn. He attended Youngstown State University, earning a degree in Systems Programming and Analysis. He worked for Sharon Steel Corp., Alcan Aluminum Corp., and retired from AmSouth Bank in 2005.
Paul had a passion for running that began in high school and continued throughout his life. He spent many happy hours running in Mill Creek Park and along the water near his home in Florida. He loved spending time with his family, baking, reading, relaxing on the beach and motorcycle riding. He had a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed.
Paul was a member of the American Legion Riders Group Post 90 in Cape Coral, where he served as secretary. He was active in fundraising for Florida military families and was a practicing Catholic and a longtime parishioner at St. Katharine Drexel in Cape Coral.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Arlene Marcella; his children, Lisa Marcella-O'Leary (Michael) and Paul Anthony Marcella; grandchildren, Nicholas O'Leary, Michael O'Leary Jr. and Amanda Parker; stepchildren, Greg Parker and Joseph Parker; sisters, Paula Slater (Howard) and Maxine Marcella; nephew, David Slater (Ninoska); and great-nephew, David Slater.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Nov. 10, 2017, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 1922 S.W. 20th Ave., Cape Coral.
