Raymond's Story

Raymond Daugherty Megown, 87, of Plain Grove Township, Volant, Pa., passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 4 p.m.
He was born in Beltzhoover, Pa., on March 23, 1930, to William Megown and Dorothy Binder.
He married Jennie Alberta Anthony on March 15, 1954, and she preceded him in death on April 4, 1994.
Raymond was an Army veteran and served in the Korean conflict. Ray worked as a Stationary Engineer and was a member of Local 95 Engineers Union.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing, and for many years his interests included hunting, fishing, boating, walking his dog "Maddie" and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn Ray of Volant and Wade Anthony (Teresa) of Templeton, Pa.; sister, Marlene Rohm of McKees Rocks, Pa.; two brothers, Ronald P. of New York City and William "Bill" of Millvale, Pa.; two grandchildren, Jessica Atherton and Hannah Megown; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, George; and two sisters, Lora Jean and Gertrude.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, Pa. Visitation at the Smith Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Interment will be in South Plain Grove Cemetery, Lawrence County, Pa.
