Richard T. Shevitz

January 23, 1946 - October 21, 2018

Richard T. Shevitz, 72, of New Castle passed away the morning of Oct. 21, 2018, at the Haven Convalescent Home.
Born on Jan. 23, 1946, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary M. Gibala Shevitz.
On Sept. 9, 1967, he married his beloved wife, the former MaryAnn Maitland, and she survives.
Richard had worked at Universal Refractories Mountain Machine Co., where he retired in 2014.
He was a member of the Army National Guard. Richard also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed working on cars and was well known as a great auto-body repairman.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by three children, Christopher T. Shevitz of New Castle, Jody L. Kolt and her husband, Jeremy, of Solon, Ohio, and Ryan T. Shevitz and his wife, Jessica of New Castle; a brother, Leonard (Butch) Shevitz and his wife, Mary Jane, of New Castle; a sister, Virginia Shevitz Snyder of New Castle; five grandchildren, Brandon J. Ritchie, Callie R. Lanzel and her husband, Brett, Tucker W. Shevitz, Jacey L. Shevitz and Mack T. Shevitz; and several generations of nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his dog, Lily.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Andrew, Edward, Anthony and Joseph Shevitz.
In honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours, and services are private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Research at www.pancan.org.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.

I have always been appreciative of the time I spent with Rich and family during my youth. I am sure it had a positive influence on my life. So sorry for your loss.

THE MEMORIES ARE TOO MANY TO LIST...BUT A STRONG MAN SITTING AT CHILDRENS HOSPITAL IN A ROCKING CHAIR HOLDING A 5 YEAR OLD GIRL ON HIS LAP READING HER A STORY BOOK WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART!!!!
