Robert Charles "Charlie" McDowell, 72, of Mount Jackson, North Beaver Township, passed away at his residence with his family by his side on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017.
Charlie was born on Nov. 13, 1944, the son of the late Charles R. and Angeline Shontz McDowell .
A high school graduate and four-year Navy veteran, Charlie then attended Youngstown State University and received his degree in Finance.
Charles' career started as a bus driver for Rhodes, Later a charter bus driver, he then drove truck for Martin Brothers trucking until his retirement.
Charlie kept busy and opened the M.J. Co. Charlie had many interests and those who knew him knew he loved hunting, fishing and traveling. He enjoyed restoring cars and was true to the racer in his blood and competed for years on the local oval track circuit running the No. 22. But his greatest joy came from his children and grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife, the former Marsha J. Hepler, whom he married on May 11, 1979; children, Michelle Pisola of St. Augustine, Fla., Chrissy (Javier) Benavides of Tallahassee, Fla., David (Joanie) Lewis of Poland, Ohio and Bryan (Kristen) McDowell of Aurora, Ohio. Charlie is also survived by sisters, Mary Ann (Bill) McGuckin of East Palestine, Ohio, and Thelma ( Richard) Strealy of Bessemer; brother, Jerry (Kathy) McDowell of Mount Jackson; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Hours of visitation are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer and Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. Services will be at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in the Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
