Ronald's Story

Text size

Ronald Cook 74, died unexpectedly the morning of Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Trinity Hospital, Minot, North Dakota, with his loving family at his side.
Ron was born in New Castle on April 10, 1942, and was raised in the Croton neighborhood.
He was a 1960 graduate of New Castle High School and 1964 graduate of Youngstown State University.
He spent seven years of military service in the National Guard.
He was joined in marriage to Patricia (Medure) Cook on Jan. 7, 1967, in New Castle. They had just celebrated 50 wonderful years together.
Ron spent 40 years in administration and management, taking him from Pennsylvania to Minnesota to Canada and back. The last 20 years were successfully spent as the general sales manager at Fox Chapel Yacht Club in Pittsburgh. After Ron's retirement in October 2016, he moved to Minot, North Dakota, to join his wife, son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters.
Ron was a staple at holidays, weddings and family parties. Most times, he was the "master of ceremonies," leader of a wedding march or captain of a dry dock cruise.
Ron loved Fourth of July cookouts, golfing with his friends and family, telling interesting stories and riddles, and generally having fun with people - his big heart always made you feel welcome. Ron enjoyed vacations with family and friends, grocery shopping for interesting ingredients, cooking with his wife, collecting wine and sharing it with his son, and making homemade pasta with his granddaughters. His greatest joy was being Papa Dogs (grandpa) to his Sweet Potatoes (granddaughters).
Ron always had a positive attitude and he left his mark on people wherever he went. His encouragement to always believe in yourself and never sell yourself short are some of the most valuable life lessons he leaves behind. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed and he will always be loved dearly. Even though he left us too soon, we are sure of this...every day that he lived, he LIVED.
Ron is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son, Raymond; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Liebl) Cook; and two granddaughters, Camille and Natalie - all from Minot, North Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary (Prioletti) Cook.
A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held at at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel for his family and friends in Minot, North Dakota.
The Cook family is planning a Celebration of Life in New Castle in April 2017. Details will be made available in the coming weeks.
Blessed be the memory of Ronald Cook - we love you, Dad.
