Russell L. Root, 77, of Edinburg, Pa., passed away at home on Dec. 1, 2017, with family by his side.
Russell was born in New Springfield, Ohio, on May 25, 1940, a son of the late Russell L. and Anna May Mitzell Root.
He married his wife Ruth E. Kohler on Dec. 16, 1961. This month would have celebrated 56 years together.
Russell was a dairy farmer in Pulaski Township, worked as a crane operator for Sheet & Tube and also worked for CSX. He was affiliated with the Greater Life Church of Boardman, Ohio, and was a Shriner with the New Castle Consistory.
Russell's family will be receiving friends and conducting funeral services on Wednesday, Dec, 6, 2017, at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer, Pa., from the hours of 3 p.m. to the 6 p.m. service time. Pastor Lawrence Loree and Pastor Keith Bruner will be officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Petersburg Cemetery.
Russell is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Edward Geidner and his wife Jill of Grove City; son, John Geidner and his wife Cheryl of New Wilmington; daughter, Elizabeth Black and her husband Warren of Mount Jackson; and daughter Dr. Suzanne Shaw and her husband Walt of Petersburg, Ohio. Russell also leaves behind a sister, Mary Ann Root of New Springfield, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Janet Root of New Middletown; and one brother, Thomas Root and his wife Diane of Bryan, Ohio. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William "Bill" Root, and a nephew, Mathew Root.
