Samuel 'Mark' Reese

November 27, 1946 - January 03, 2019

Samuel 'Mark' Reese Samuel Reese, 72, of New Galilee passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019.
He was known by his friends and family as Mark and was born Nov. 27, 1946, in New Castle.
He graduated from Neshannock High School in 1964 and attended Youngstown State University.
Mark served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970 and served active duty in the Vietnam War for three years. For his accomplishments in the military, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation and the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star and Silver Star.
After serving in the military, Mark and his father Samuel owned and operated Starshine Foods, where they produced apple juice and apple cider, and later Mark solely managed the company until the early 1990s. Since 2001, he worked for Gwin Brothers Trucking until the time of his passing. He was a loved and valued employee of the company.
Mark was a true outdoorsman and loved to spend time on his property with his dogs. He loved to garden and spend time in the woods cutting trees.
Mark was funny and lighthearted and was the first one to make a joke at the most inappropriate time. He was a straight shooter and was never one to mince words. He was a hard-working man and always had humble pride in his accomplishments. To say the least, he was a faithful, honorable man who did the right thing until the very end.
Mark is survived by his two loving daughters, Kimberly Pratt of Clover, S.C., and Jennifer Gregg of Cranberry Township, Pa. He has six grandchildren: Alexander, Dylan, Jacob, Owen, Aaron and Lucas. He also has three remaining siblings: Randolf Reese, Elizabeth Love and Linda Simon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel J. and Edith Reese; his sisters, Gay Williams, Sylvia Richell, Rita Crisci; and his brother Douglas Reese.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home at 203 Oak St. in Bessemer, Pa.
A private memorial service will be held afterward with military honors.
