Scott W. Burkes, 56, of 260 Fording Road passed away the morning of Dec. 16, 2017, with his family by his side.
Scott was born Aug. 12, 1961, in New Castle. He was the son of the late John E. Burkes. His mother, Mildred Pakovitch Burkes, survives him at home.
Mr. Burkes was of the Christian faith. He was a graduate of Union High School, class of 1979. Scott continued his education at Kent State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in business management.
Mr. Burkes worked in industrial sales for Link Industries.
Scott was an avid golfer and he enjoyed going to Steelers and Youngstown State University football games. He never missed an YSU football game. He played football in high school for the Union Scotties. Scott played baseball his entire life; he played in high school and in all county leagues. He played first and third base at Kent State University as a starter for four years.
Scott also loved to travel to Las Vegas with his brother Alan and sister-in-law Kathy. His greatest joy was spending time with his great nephew, Antonio.
In addition to his mother Mildred, he is survived by his two brothers, Alan (Kathy) M. Burkes and John E. Burkes Jr., both of New Castle; sister and brother-in-law, Christine A. (Eugene) Johnson of Pinetops, N.C.; several loving nieces and nephews; and his beloved great-nephew, Antonio Mangino.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Frank and Elsie Burkes and Nick and Anna Pakovitch; two brothers and one sister who died at infancy.
In honoring his wishes, a private funeral service will be held for his immediate family later this week.
