Shirley Jean Nagel, 88, of Gloucester, Virginia, got her wish to go home on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, surrounded by family.
She was born to Joseph L. Hemphill and Ruth M. (Ashton) Hemphill on Dec. 22, 1928, in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
She married Mervin P. Nagel of New Castle in 1950, and he preceded her in death in 1999.
Shirley was a graduate of New Castle High School and the Mazon Frederick Beauty School.
She became a licensed beautician, opening a salon in her home.
Shirley was a deacon at Third Presbyterian Church of New Castle.
She enjoyed travel, reading, music and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her oldest son, Douglas and his wife, LuAnn (Tremblay), their daughter Elizabeth Aldridge and her husband, Derek, and their children, Cadence and Caylyn, and their son, Andrew Nagel and his wife, Alyssa (McManaway). She is also survived by her youngest son, David and his wife, Mary (Mink) and their children, Emily and James.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, Neil and Jack.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home in New Castle, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bill King, pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment will be at Castle View Memorial Gardens.
