Sister Mary Ann's Story
Sister Mary Ann Sebian, H.M., 88, formerly Sister Mary Elizabeth, died Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Villa Maria Community Center, Villa Maria, Pa.
Born in Painesville, Ohio, she graduated from Villa Maria High School in 1947 and entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary Congregation in 1948 from St. Mary Parish. She professed perpetual vows in 1953. Sister Mary Ann earned her BA in Music from Nazareth College, Rochester, N.Y., and her MA in Speech Pathology from Kent State University.
Sister Mary Ann shared her gifts and talents during her 53 years in active ministry as a dedicated music teacher, missionary and speech pathologist. She was a home visitor at St. James Parish, New Bedford, from 1998-2008 and served at Villa Maria Community Center visiting with the retired sisters. She shared in the HM Ministry of Prayer until her death.
During the 1960s she served as a missionary in Temuco, Chile, where she taught English at the local university. She was a speech and language pathologist at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Pecery) Sebian, she is survived by her extended family and her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation with whom she shared her life for 69 years. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, George, Paul, Francis, Aloysius, William, Monsignor Thomas Sebian and Brother John Sebian, SJ and her sister, Mary Musgrave.
Funeral will be Thursday, July 13, at 10 a.m. at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria. Friends may call at Villa Maria Chapel Wednesday, July 12, 3:30 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, July 13, 9 to 9:45 a.m. Prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12.
