Theresa Stroia, 91, of New Castle passed away in her home the morning of Sept. 23, 2017.
Theresa was born on Sept. 9, 1926, in New Castle to the late Paul and Gaetana (Aveni) Panerello.
She married Nicholas Stroia on Sept. 11, 1948, who preceded her in death in 1993.
In 1996, Mrs. Stroia retired after serving in the Laurel High School cafeteria for over 35 years. She cooked for the Laurel football camps and various dinners served at Laurel as well as Y Girls camp and 4-H Boys. She also prepared and served dinners at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Prior to Theresa's career in cooking, she worked at Shenango Pottery.
Theresa was also a devoted member of First Assembly of God Church and enjoyed collecting and reading cookbooks, of which she had a very large collection. She also enjoyed going to flea markets and sales.
Theresa is survived by her children, Nick (Joan) Stroia, Deborah Assid and Rhonda Stroia; and grandchildren, William (Andrea) Assid, Matthew (Andee) Stroia, Tressa (Jay) McBride, Jamie (Jack) Thomas, Nicole (Tyler) Jones, Julie (Stanhope) Bangay and James (Samantha) Assid; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Theresa was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary (Aven) Lambo, Samuel, Orville, William and Dominick Aven, Clarence and Paul Panarella; and son-in-law, James Assid.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, from 3 to 6 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church, 2021 Pulaski Road, New Castle, Pa. 16105.
A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 6 p.m. at the church. Pastor Chad Stoecker will officiate.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
