Violet's Story

Violet "June" Black, 83, of New Castle passed away the evening of Friday, June 23, 2017 at UPMC Jameson.
Born on November 11, 1933 in Greenville, PA, she was a daughter of Samuel and Pearle Davis Stallsmith.
On April 23, 1955, she married Walter G. Black. They were married for sixty years when he preceded her in death on November 26, 2014.
A 1951 graduate of Penn High School, she was employed as a secretary at Westinghouse, and as a sales clerk at both Robert Hall and The Ladies Store. She loved going to yard sales and shopping. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and babysitting. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of both the Eagles Club and the Moose Club and a member of First Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Black and Lori (Wayne) Ryhal, both of New Castle; a sister, Mary Fleming of Greenville; and one granddaughter, Whitney Marie.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Black; and sisters, Betty Moyer and infant Ada Marie Stallsmith.
There will be no visitation or services. Arrangements have been entrusted to R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
