Virginia's Story

Virginia G. Burnside, 94, a lifelong Bessemer resident, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at the Masternick Memorial Care Center in New Middletown, Ohio, with her family around her.
She was born in New Castle on July 11, 1922, a daughter of the late Frank and Christina Nelson Glass.
Virginia graduated from Bessemer High as a member of the class of 1940.
She married Presley Burnside on April 12, 1941. Presley passed away in 1953.
Virginia is survived by her brother, Harry "Pete" Glass and his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Carol Bryan and her husband, Dick, and Mary Ann Rainey; four grandsons, Richard Bryan, Mark Bryan and his wife, Renee, David Rainey and Mathew Rainey and his wife, Janice; two great-granddaughters, Jocelyn and Meladie Rainey; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty and Mildred; her brothers, Bill, Al and Frank; and her son-in-law, the Rev. Don Rainey
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Virginia will be laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery in New Castle.
