William M. Johnson, 92, of New Castle passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017.
Born on Sept. 7, 1925, in New Castle, he was the first-born of the late William and Lena Thomas Johnson.
After graduating from New Castle High School, William served his country in the Army as an auto mechanic and a rifle sharpshooter.
He was married to Grace Derry Johnson, who preceded him in death
William was a hard-working man, having been employed as a laborer at Johnson Bronze and Rockwell Spring Division.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking and working with wood as a carpenter. He was an avid football (Pittsburgh Steelers) fan. Even though William was strong-willed and strong-minded, he was a sweetheart to many.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Grace, William was preceded in death by his son, William Johnson Jr; his daughter, Linda; two sisters; and four brothers.
William will be sadly missed by his daughter, Lucille (Charles) Murphy and son, Kenneth Johnson, all of New Castle; five grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Charlotte A. Sheffield Funeral Home, 454 Chestnut St., where the service to celebrate William's life will begin at 6 p.m.
William will be laid to rest on Monday at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, with a military salute.
