William Pitzer Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Canfield Presbyterian Church for William S. Pitzer, 88, of Canfield, Ohio, who passed away the evening of Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, in Briarfield Manor.
Mr. Pitzer was born on May 2, 1928, in New Wilmington, a son of James and Ruth (Penberthy) Pitzer.
He was a 1952 graduate of Youngstown University. He earned several certificates from the local chapter of the American Institute of Banking. He also earned a graduate certificate from the School of Banking of the University of Wisconsin.
He joined the Dollar Bank in 1955. After a series of promotions, he was elected vice president in charge of the commercial loan department in 1971. He served on numerous boards during his banking career. William retired at the end of 1987.
He served in the Army in the military police during the occupation of Germany after World War II, and served again during the Korean War.
William was a member of the church, where he also served as a deacon, the Dollar Bank Silver Gang, the Canfield Community Club, the American Legion and the Mahoning Valley Civil War Round Table. William also served on the Design and Review Committee, the Planning Commission and the Charter Review Commission of the city of Canfield.
He leaves his wife of more than 64 years, the former Shirley J. Brush, whom he married on June 28, 1952. He also leaves a sister, Jane Pitzer Moore of New Wilmington; as well as several nieces and nephews, Gale Moore Siddall, Patricia Moore Slagter, Gary Moore, Russell Moore, James Pitzer, John Pitzer, Robert Brush and Scott Brush.
Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Pitzer.
Friends may call from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Canfield Presbyterian Church, where services will be held at 11 a.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lane Family Funeral Homes Canfield Chapel.
