Adella "Bunny" Johnson

Adella M. Greer Bigley Johnson, formerly of Old Princeton Road, passed away early Monday morning, February 6, 2017. She was 85.

Bunny was born February 26, 1931 in New Castle the daughter of Fern Greer and Daniel Cassella. Her mother later married Edward Bigley, Bunny's stepfather.

She was a lifelong area resident and a 1949 graduate of New Castle High School.

Bunny was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church where she was a devoted choir member for many years.

Bunny loved performing, particularly singing. She was a member of New Castle Faces and participated in many musicals at the Mahoningtown Playhouse. A wonderful cook, Bunny was also known for her exceptional baking talents. Her wedding cookie tables were enjoyed by all.

Her husband, Julius Johnson, whom she married June 24, 1950, passed away April 15, 2014.

She is survived by five children; John Johnson and his partner Lawrence Reynolds, of Arlington, VA; Kathy Ocel and her husband Frank, of Pittsburgh; Julie Handlos and her husband Robert, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Joannie Handlos and her husband Steve; of New Castle; and Melanie Melcer and her husband Brian, of New Castle; and a sister, Nettie Book, of New Castle. She is also survived by seven grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Bunny was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ruth Porada.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Calling hours: There will be no calling hours.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday (2/11/2017) in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1111 S. Cascade Street, New Castle with the Rev. James A. Downs, former pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: Sts. Phillip & James Cemetery, New Castle.
