Alex A. (Xie) Metta Jr., 80, of New Castle passed away the evening of Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Heritage Valley Hospital.
Born on Sept. 3, 1936, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Alex A. Sr. and Rose Perell Metta.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 44 years, the former Cecelia T. (Ce) Litrenta, whom he married on Feb. 3, 1973.
Alex had worked as a grocer for Kroger's, Loblaw's, and Ralph's.
He formerly had served as an usher for St. Vitus Church.
He also formerly belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Moose Club, The Dukes and the Cally Club. Alex was known as a very good handyman.
In addition to his wife, Alex is survived by his sisters, Helen Metta, Sandra Young and Beverly Fenati and her husband, John, all of New Castle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Isabel Knight.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Vitus Church. The Rev. Joseph Codori will officiate.
Interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
