Alice (Elsie) Dando, 94, of New Castle passed away the evening of Thursday, April 20, 2017, at her residence.
Born on Jan. 26, 1923, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Palma Calabrese Casciato.
On Oct. 16, 1943, she married her beloved husband, Patsy A. Dando, and the two of them spent 50 years together until he preceded her in death on May 18, 1994.
In her earlier years, Elsie worked for Shenango Pottery and Jameson Hospital. She also worked as a waitress and cook at various local restaurants.
She was a member of St. Vitus Church.
Elsie enjoyed cooking and baking and was known as the best pizza maker in town.
She will always be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and sister, who loved being around her family and gave everything for her family.
Elsie is survived by her children, Barbara A. Eckles of New Castle, Carol McGeary of Henderson, Nevada and Robert P. Dando Sr. and his wife, Nina, of New Castle; her sister, Palma (Rita) Locke of New Castle; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael A. Dando; her brothers, Adam, Domenick, Albert and Alfred Casciato; and her sisters, Mary Casciato, Minnie Casciato, Stella DeCarlo and Loretta Dando.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Vitus Church, officiated by the Rev. Joseph Codori.
Interment will take place in St. Vitus Cemetery.
