Betty Jane Bovo, 87, of South Ray Street passed away the afternoon of Friday, March 24, 2017, with her family around her.
Born on April 2, 1929, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. and Sylvia (Dolly) Klingensmith.
Betty was married to the late James L. Bovo for 64 years.
She was Roman Catholic and a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church.
Mrs. Bovo will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Betty was very involved in her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's lives and activities.
In 2002, at the age of 73, Betty returned to high school and earned her diploma, graduating in 2003. Being very proud of her accomplishment, she then attended college for one year and majored in Italian.
Betty also was involved in the local Election Board as Judge of Elections for more than 20 years. She played an acting role in her nephew's (Cristos) movie "Tunnel Vision" filmed in New Castle released and shown in 2012.
Betty was quite the crafter over the years.
A hobby she enjoyed was puzzle books, but most recently, she conquered the art of adult coloring. Having hundreds of different colors and several books, she made each family member their very own personalized and signed piece of art.
She was a stay-at-home mom who loved cooking and teaching her daughters how to cook.
She believed in never wasting time or education. Betty was always a cheerleader for her family no matter what they chose to do.
She loved her family unconditionally and took great pride in organizing family get togethers, being the president of her family reunions for 16 years.
Betty is survived by her five children, Dr. Mary Jane Bovo, Jamesa Presnar and her husband, Stanley, Noreen Macri, Michele Bovo and Marc Bovo and his wife Renee, all of New Castle; sister, Evelyn Campbell of New Castle; grandchildren, Christine O'Brien and husband Mickey of Westfield, NJ, Vince Presnar and wife, Annette, Justin Lemmon and Amanda Macri, all of New Castle, Emily Cavanaugh and her husband, Sam, of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, and Andrew Bovo of New Castle; her great-grandchildren, Samuel Perl and Timothy O'Brien, both of Westfield, New Jersey, Anthony Presnar, Giovanna Beacham, Isabella Presnar and Adriana Presnar, all of New Castle; her granddogs, Harley Rose and Nico James of New Castle; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Dominic J. Bovo; her brothers, Norman Klingensmith Sr. and Charles (Junior) Klingensmith; and her son-in-law, John B. Macri Jr.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
A procession will leave DeCarbo's at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church, officiated by the Rev. James Downs.
Entombment will take place in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
