Betty J. Cwynar Melozzi, 84, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Golden Hill Nursing Home.
Born on Jan. 7, 1933, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Angeline Cwiakala Cwynar.
On Aug. 23, 1979, she married her beloved husband, Alex Melozzi, and the two of them spent many years together until he preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1984.
A graduate of Jameson Hospital School of Nursing, Betty had worked as a registered nurse for Jameson Hospital, Houston Methodist Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
A very religious woman, Betty was a member of the Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church and its Blessed Sacrament Society of the Church, and she also belonged to St. Vincent de Paul Parish.
Betty always will be remembered as a very giving person, who would do anything for anyone.
Betty is survived by her sister, Helen Tommelleo of New Castle; her brother, Frank Cwynar and his wife, Amelia, of Struthers, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bertha Meharg and Mary Kwiat; and her brothers, Alex, Edward, Theodore A. and John S. Cwynar.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
A procession will leave DeCarbo's at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to attend a Funeral Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church, officiated by Deacon Dave Nichols.
Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
