Carl L. Dengler Sr., 94, of West Pittsburg passed away the afternoon of Saturday, June 24, 2017, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Born on Oct. 15, 1922, in Slippery Rock, he was a son of Fred W. and Sarah L. Downs Dengler.
Carl was preceded in death in May 1981 by his wife of 34 years, Gloria M. McNutt Dengler, whom he married on March 16, 1947.
A New Castle High School graduate, he served his country in the Army during World War II as a Private First Class and received the Purple Heart.
Carl was employed with Pentex as a core maker for 28 years until his retirement in 1980.
A member the Eagles Post 455 Nest and L.O.O.M. 51 Lodge, he was also a member of AARP. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and various sports.
He was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Carlene Whipkey of Scottdale, Pennsylvania; his son, Carl L. Dengler Jr. of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; his brother, Clifford "Eugene" Dengler of New Castle; his companion of 43 years, Gladys Klenotic; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred W. Dengler; his sister, Sara Wright; and four sisters, Thelma Reitz, Viola Shira, Mildred Antilla and Sara Wright.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. John Yergan officiating. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
