Charles J. Joseph, 85, formerly of Cunningham Avenue, passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at his residence.
Born on Feb. 13, 1932, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Moses and Raya Fakhr Joseph.
On Aug. 31, 1952, he married his beloved wife, the former Norina Conte, and the two of them spent 59 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 2011.
For more than 30 years, Charles was a co-owner of Big J. Supermarket, along with his brothers.
He also served his country as a member of the Air Force during the Korean War Era.
Charles was a member of St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church.
He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid golfer. Charles' greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his children, David Joseph and his wife, Michelle, of New Castle, Jerry Joseph and his wife, Carolyn, of New Castle, and Dr. Paula Joseph Hasson and her husband, David of Scarborough, Maine; his brothers, Michael Joseph and Richard Joseph and his wife, Barbara, all of New Castle; his sister, Nancy Saad of New Castle; his sisters-in-law, Rita Joseph and Donna Joseph, both of New Castle; his grandchildren, Morgan Joseph, Jordan Joseph and his fiancee, Danielle Alcott, Ronnie Sarandrea and Joey Sarandrea; his stepgrandchildren, Jimmy Ross, Kristen Clark and her husband, Sean, Brittney Biangone, David Hasson and his wife, Sonnie, and Dayna Minniti and her husband, Garrett; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Alex Frazier, Cameryn Frazier, Joseph Clark, Jack Clark, John Hasson, Emmeline Hasson and Aria Minniti.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Edward, George, John and Thomas Joseph; and his stepgrandson, Danny Frazier.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A Service of Incense will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A procession will leave DeCarbo's at 9:30 a.m. Friday to attend a Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Claude Franklin.
Interment will take place in St. Vitus Cemetery.
