Donald J. Shaftic Sr., 75, of New Castle passed away the morning of Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Donald was born on Oct. 19, 1941, in New Castle, a son of the late Walter S. and Viola E. Frank Shaftic.
Mr. Shaftic was married to the former Delores Louise Rhodes. She survives at home. They were married for 53 wonderful years.
Donald was of the Christian faith.
Mr. Shaftic retired after 28 years of service as a bus washer at the New Castle Transit Authority. Donald enjoyed gong to old car shows and reading sports books. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Donald loved watching his grandchildren grow and attending their baseball games.
In addition to his wife, Delores, he is survived by two children, Donald J. (Tammee) Shaftic Jr., and Crystal H. Kassi, both of New Castle; a brother, Jerry P. (Karen) Shaftic of Doylestown, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jason A. Burkett, Megan D. (Vincent) Buckel, Austin J. (Brittany) Kassi, Christian H. Kassi and Brett M. Kassi, all of New Castle; and a great-granddaughter, Chloe H. Kassi of New Castle.
Mr. Shaftic was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Wayne A. Shaftic; his brother, Walter S. Shaftic Jr.; two grandsons, Joseph M. and Joshua W. Shaftic; and a great-great grandson, Hunter V. Buckel.
Following his wishes, there will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1204 W. Washington St., New Castle. The Rev. William Levella, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Wesley United Methodist Church.
