Elizabeth's Story

Elizabeth C. Gunn, 91, of New Castle went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, in UPMC Presbyterian, surrounded by her loving family.
Elizabeth was born on Feb. 28, 1925, in New Castle to John William and Ethel Webber Wall.
Elizabeth married Jesse Gunn on Christmas day in 1947, with whom she shared a wonderful life until his passing in 2002.
She served as a USO worker in 1944.
She was a member of the NAACP and helped with its kindergarten program.
As a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church, Elizabeth served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, class leader, conference delegate and deaconess.
In her relaxing time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and jewelry making. She also enjoyed gardening and loved to read and cook.
Elizabeth had a special love for her grandchildren. She was feisty and full of life.
She was "The Queen."
In addition to her husband and parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her son, Eric; her brother, Eugene Wall; and her sister, Ethel Martin.
Elizabeth will be sadly missed by her devoted daughter, Stephanie Gunn Holness of New Castle; her son, Jimmy Gunn of West Palm Beach Florida; her brother, William (Mary Jane) Walls of Huntington Beach, California; her daughter-in-law, Roxann Gunn; three grandchildren, Michele of Brooklyn New York, Lauren of Pittsburgh and Joshua of New Castle; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church, 603 Harbor St.
The Homegoing celebration will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Arthur Holloway delivering the eulogy. The Rev. Francilla Allen will officiate.
Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Charlotte A. Sheffield Funeral Home Inc., 454 Chestnut St., New Castle, Pa.
