Frank M. Wratny, 91, of New Castle passed away the evening of March 8, 2017, at his residence.
Frank was born Sept. 27, 1925, in New Castle. He was the son of the late John and Frances Kielar Wratny. Mr. Wratny married the former Evelyn A. Gush. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2012. They were married for 57 years. Frank was Roman Catholic and a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish.
Following graduation, Frank enlisted in the United States Army on Jan. 31, 1949. He earned the rank of Private First Class on Dec. 9, 1949. Frank was a member of the 537th QM Laundry Company. Mr. Wratny received many decorations, with the infantry, aviation and marksmanship badges. Frank qualified as a sharpshooter with the carbine rifle. Frank was Honorably Discharged on Jan. 30, 1950, in Fort Benning, Ga. Mr. Wratny re-enlisted in the United States Army on Oct. 20, 1950, in Fort Campbell, Ky. He received the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). Frank earned the rank of Corporal on June 16, 1951. Mr. Wratny was Honorably Discharged on Nov. 3, 1951, in Camp Kilmer, N.J. Frank retired after 52 plus years of service as a pipefitter with the Local 47 in Beaver, Pa. He enjoyed going to camp at Pymatuning Lake, where he loved to fish with his family and friends. He was a member of the Pymatuning Sportsman's Club for six years. Frank also loved to hunt, cut his grass and garden. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wratny is survived by two sons, John R. Wratny, and Ronald R. (Joni) Wratny, both of New Castle; three grandchildren, Raquel L. (Dennis) Flora of New Castle, Lynsey J. (Jarodd) Hargis of New Castle and Ronald F. Wratny of New Castle; and three great-grandchildren, Arsenio and Apollonia Flora, and Emma J. Hargis.
In addition to his parents and wife Evelyn, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Budai, Helen Noordwall and Betty Filbig.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St., New Castle. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military honors at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home Monday evening. Additional viewing will be Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to leaving for Mass.
A procession will leave the funeral home Tuesday at 10 a.m. for Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Frank D. Almade, pastor of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish will officiate. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery. Online condolences may be viewed or given by visiting nogafuneralhome.com.
