James Douglas "Doug" "J.D." George, 54, of New Castle, formerly of Ford City, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017, from injuries sustained in an accident.
Born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 27, 1963, he was a son of James Welch and Shirley Wyant George.
On Aug. 25, 1983, he married the former Virginia Pechan. She survives him at home.
He was a graduate of Ford City High School and an Army Reservist E-5.
For the past 10 years, he was employed with Penn Power as an A lineman. Prior to that, he was employed with IBEW Local 1319 as a lineman.
He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing and camping.
He was also a great guitar player and a family man. He loved to work and he loved his job, as well as his dogs, "Moe" and "Buster."
He was a former member of the Church of God in Kittanning.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Nathan Young of Bessemer; his brothers, Ronald George and Robert (Carol) George of Cadogen, Pennsylvania, and Daniel George of Kittanning; his sister, Connie (Lee) Arble of Rural Valley, Pennsylvania; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kathleen and Raymond Troutman of Ford Cliff, Pennsylvania; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Evie and Dave Cornett of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, Kathleen and Randy Rebosky of Dayton, Pennsylvania, Louis and Jamie Pechan of Ford Cliff, Ron and Debbie Pechan of Ford City, Patty and Bill Ruth of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, Tammy and Ron Good of Templeton, Pennsylvania, Bob and Connie Pechan of Ford Cliff, Michelle and Ron Cronauer of West Kittanning and Albert Pechan of Ford Cliff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was like a second father to Miranda and Austin George and Katelyn and Nicholas Burns. He was also like a second grandfather to Eli George.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother-in-law, James Pechan.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Gardner of Berean Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City officiating.
