John Irvin Neely, 88, of Mercer-New Wilmington Road, New Wilmington, Pa., died at his residence on Saturday, April 8, 2017.
John was born in Plain Grove Township on Jan. 2 1929, to the late Seth Raymond and Gladys Marie Heckathorne Neely. He married the former Dorothy "Dot" Martin on May 26, 1950. She survives at the residence.
John was a self-employed farmer and retired from Pennsylvania Engineering. He was a member of the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church and was a 1946 graduate of Plain Grove High School. He was member of the Volant Lions Club and enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing. Most important to John was being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Dorothy, are four daughters, Connie (Kenneth) Stratton of Enon Valley, Sharon Kinne of Massena, N.Y., Laurie (Roy) Boggs of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Tracy Osborne of Wilmington, N.C.; two sons, Ray (Vickie) Neely of Pulaski and Scott Neely of Bessemer; two sisters, Madge Whiting of Edinburg and Donna Shaw of West Palm, Fla.; one brother, Dale Neely of Daytona, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Stan Keehlwetter officiating. Lunch will follow.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Volant Lions Club or the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church.
