Joseph Ronald Johnson, 86, of Edinburg passed away the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at his residence.
Born July 23, 1931, in Tiltonsville, Ohio, he was a son of Joseph E. Johnson.
Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Shirley K. Mullen Johnson, whom he married on Dec. 31, 1970.
Joseph was a hard worker all of his life, starting at the early age of 7 when he shined shoes. At age 8, he delivered Sunday newspapers; at 11, he helped with landscaping; at 13, he did mine props; at 14 and 15, he worked for Penn Line; at 16, he worked for Aspen Tree Experts; between 18 and 20, he was employed with Roadway Express, Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Ohio Turnpike and D.W. Winkleman; at 20, Skip Mill Trucking; at 21, Rockwell International and Television Co.; and until his retirement in 1996 at age 65, he was employed with Travers Construction.
Joseph was a NASCAR fan, especially an avid fan of both Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
He liked watching football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, but was a big fan of Tom Brady.
He loved the outdoors more than anything, whether it was summer or winter. He often enjoyed traveling to Lake Erie to fish, hunting on his own property, gardening and lawn work.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two stepsons, Thomas J. Perrett of New Castle and Jeffery D. Perrett of California; and a brother, Robert Johnson of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Richard Johnson.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours.
A private entombment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
