Katherine R. "Katie" Parish, 17, of 3222 Mercer Road, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Sept. 8, 2017, in UPMC Jameson Hospital of a unexpected sudden illness.
Katie was born on May 17, 2000, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to William B. and Christine A. Langsdale Parish. They survive at home.
Katie was a senior at Neshannock High School.
Katie was a loving and kind person with a "millennial" sense of humor who loved playing trombone for the band, taking bizarre selfies and looking forward to ski club every year. She enjoyed traveling and was blessed to have the opportunity to visit many places in her short life, for mission trips in Zimbabwe and Fiji, as well as family vacations.
She was a scuba diver, skier, musician and good friend. Katie loved God and was a social justice warrior, especially for gender equality and LGBTQ rights. She wanted to make sure the church was a safe haven for all people to find and experience God's love.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandmother, Bonnie I. Parish of Raccoon Township, Beaver County, Pa.; maternal grandfather, Howard McClellan of Ambridge, Pa.; aunt, Dr. Evelyn Parish of Loris, S.C.; uncle, Paul (Debbie) J. Parish of Raccoon, Township; aunt, Paula (Jeff) Shook of Hampton Township.
Katie was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Glenn Parish; maternal grandparents, Ruth McClellan and Roger Langsdale; and her uncle, Kevin Langsdale.
The family will receive friends and fellow students from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at the Neshannock High School auditorium.
A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4 p.m. in the auditorium, where Rev. Dr. Matt L. Camlin of New Wilmington Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St., Box 190, New Castle, Pa. 16103.
The family is asking memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Katie Parish memorial fund at First National Bank, 3200 Wilmington Road, New Castle, Pa. 16105.
