Marie's Story

Marie E. Sparacino, 92, of West Pittsburg passed away the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at AHN Healthcare@Home Inpatient Hospice Unit at West Penn Hospital.
Born on Aug. 5, 1924, in West Pittsburg, she was a daughter of the late Thomas P. Sr. and Anna Passalinqua Carangi.
On Oct. 15, 1955, she married her beloved husband, James J. Sparacino, and the two spent more than 46 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on June 18, 2002.
Marie formerly owned Mim's Italian Kitchen in West Pittsburg, and she later worked as the assistant manager of the G.C. Murphy Diner. She retired from the Workman's Compensation Office for the State of Pennsylvania.
Marie was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish.
A very creative person, she enjoyed crocheting, baking and cooking.
Marie will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity; she loved providing for people and spreading joy to everyone she could. Marie coordinated an afghan ministry for the homeless, veterans, children and the needy out of her home. She was known for making more than 200 loaves of Easter Bread every year to give away to people.
Marie is survived by her children, Christopher Sparacino and his wife, Sharon, of Verona, Pennsylvania, Francis Sparacino and his wife, Teresa, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and the Rev. Thomas Sparacino of St. Richard Parish, Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; her brother, Thomas Carangi Jr. and his wife, Sally, of West Pittsburg; her sister, Lill Germaine of West Pittsburg; her grandchildren, Anna Skoda and her husband, Matt, Christopher Sparacino and his wife, Ally, Cheri Ann Sparacino and A.J. Sparacino; and her great-grandchildren, Sydney Skoda and Charlie Skoda.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Anne Sparacino; her sister, Bambina (Babe) Carangi; her nephew, Tony (Rock) Germaine; her niece, Cindy Germaine; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Edger Germaine, Joseph and Mary Sparr, Santo and Thelma Sparacino, and Carmella and Sam Mazzola; and her nephew, David Sparr.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St., New Castle. A vigil prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. Monday to attend a Mass of Christian burial at noon at St. Vincent de Paul Church, officiated by her son, the Rev. Thomas Sparacino of St. Richard Parish.
Interment will take place in St. Vitus Cemetery.
