Mary S. Kaulback, 96, of New Wilmington passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Countryside Nursing Home in Mercer.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1920, to Lee H. and Clarice Entrekin Smith in Bartow, Fla.
She was preceded in death in 1998 by Richard H. Kaulback, her husband of 56 years.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Kaulback of New Wilmington and James (Barbara) Kaulback of Lebanon, Pa.: a daughter, Jean (William) Miller of Sarasota, Fla.; four granddaughters, Lisa Miller (Dave Rochat) of Broadlands, Va., Elizabeth (Brian) Schaller of Garnet Valley, Pa., Christina (Todd) Colby of Bel Air, Md., and Kristin (Shawn) Marchilena of Coraopolis; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kaulback operated Nest Egg Antiques in New Wilmington, along with her son, Robert (1985 to 2002.)
She graduated from Florida Southern College in 1942 and received her master's degree from Westminster College in 1959 and her secondary principal's certificate in 1964.
She was a teacher and director of public relations at New Castle Senior High from 1970 to 1984, and teacher at George Washington Junior High School in New Castle from 1961 to 1970. During that time, she held offices in numerous national, state and local divisions of Council of Teachers of English.
She was editor of the New Wilmington Globe from 1959 to 1961, and news correspondent for the New Castle News from 1951 to 1961.
She was an active president of the New Wilmington branch of AAUW.
Mary Kaulback was named to the World Who's Who of Women in 1973.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Smith Funeral Home, New Wilmington.
