Mary K. Pavelek, 103, of New Castle passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Jameson Care Center in New Castle.
Mary was the eldest of five siblings, born on Jan. 29, 1914, to the late Adolph and Agnes Vopicka Klecka. She was born in Dillonvale, Ohio, where she also attended school.
Mary worked in the family business until her marriage to Andrew A. Pavelek on Oct. 26, 1935.
Mary K., her husband and family moved to a small farm in Fairview Township near Fredonia, Pennsylvania in 1939. Mary had a large vegetable garden and lots of flowers to enjoy.
Mary was past president of the Mercer County Homemakers Association.
Mary was a member of First Presyterian Church in Fredonia, where she belonged to the quilting circle of the church. She also enjoyed crocheting.
Mary was an accomplished seamstress, making nearly all of her own clothing. Mary's specialty was quilting and she made more than 27 quilts for her family and friends.
Mary, a kind and gentle soul, always had something for whoever happened to drop in to visit. In earlier years, she made decorated birthday cakes for her grandchildren.
Mary traveled throughout the United States and Canada.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory four children, Rose M. Michaels and her husband, Lloyd, June Pavelek, and Andrew and his wife, Peggy, all in New Castle, and Michael in Fredonia; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1958; three sisters; a brother; and a granddaughter, Patricia Michaels List.
Mary requested no visiting hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Robert Snyder Funeral Home in Fredonia.
Burial will take place at Millbank Cemetery in Fredonia.
