Patricia C. Johnson, 76, of Village Lane, New Wilmington, passed away on Oct. 1, 2017, at her residence.
Born in Itta Bena, Miss., she was the daughter of Sanford Charlton and Lillian Bass Cockrell.
She married William L. Johnson on June 22, 1963, and he survives at the residence.
Pat earned a B.S. degree in mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi and an M.S. from the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School.
She started her career as a systems programmer for major computer centers (Air Force, Navy, Lockheed and the University of Illinois). Pat taught math at Slippery Rock University and Youngstown State University. She retired from a long career managing computer networking and data services for a consortium of school districts in eastern Ohio.
Pat enjoyed walking, reading, playing bridge and volunteering.
Survivors include her husband, Bill of the residence; one son, Paul (Lisa) Johnson of Pickerington, Ohio; two grandsons, Alexander and Gabriel Johnson; her stepmother, Georgie Cockrell of Towson, Md.; two sisters, Nancy Schwarzkopf and Linda Delois Walker; and one brother, Alan Williams.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Paul Cockrell.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington, Pa. Funeral service will be Thursday, Oct 5, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 125 S. Mercer St., New Wilmington, Pa. with Pastor Rebecca Rosengarth officiating.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church of New Wilmington and Friends of the New Castle Public Library.
