Robert W.J. McBride, 95, formerly of Beckford Street, passed away the afternoon of June 6, 2017, at Haven Convalescent Home in New Castle.
Born Jan. 15, 1922, in New Castle, he was the son of Ralph P. Jellison and Marie McBride Jellison. After his mother's death in childbirth, Robert was adopted and raised by Ida Mae Wise McBride, his maternal grandmother.
A graduate of New Castle High School, Bob served his country in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a Seaman, First Class during World War II.
He was employed for over 20 years with Arrow Motors in sales until his retirement.
A member of the Masonic Lodge of the Craft-Westminster, he also was an avid CB and Ham Radio Operator. He traveled the United States and abroad, often with his good friend, Alice Treser.
Mr. McBride is survived by one daughter, Rev. Deborah J. Stowers of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; and two sisters, Patricia Winslow and Nancy Pierson.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Dorothy J. Connor McBride and Cornelia Matt McBride; his parents; one infant daughter, Susan J. McBride; and one sister, Betty Watts.
Anyone wishing to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, June 14, for Mr. McBride is asked to gather at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, at 10:30 a.m. for an 11 a.m. committal at Oak Park Cemetery. The Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner will be officiating.
Military rites will be performed by members of the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
