Robert's Story

Robert Lee Preston Jr., 91, of New Castle passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017.
Robert was born on Jan. 31, 1926, in New Castle to the late Robert Lee Sr. and Adelaide Preston.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, the former Shirley O'Shea, whom he married in 1951.
Robert attended New Castle High School where he lettered in football and basketball.
He was a Navy veteran and served in the Pacific theater during World War II.
Robert graduated from Colgate University after being discharged from the Navy.
Robert was involved in many New Castle area businesses over the past 70 years. He loved to work, and his sons benefited from the example of his work ethic and common sense approach to business. They will miss his guidance and support.
Parkstown Lanes, Preston and McKinley Oil Co., Agway Petroleum, W&B Supply and Reed Oil were all businesses that Robert owned or managed during a lifetime of work. Most recently, he headed up propane sales at Reed Oil.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five sons, Jack (Martha) Preston of Houston, Texas, Robert (Joanne) Preston III of New Castle, Patrick (Diane) Preston of Newbury, Ohio, David (Mary Kay) Preston of New Castle and Bill (Kristen) Preston of New Wilmington; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his younger brother, Piper Preston.
Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Vitus Church, officiated by the Rev. Frank Almade, pastor.
Interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Way of Lawrence County, 223 N. Mercer St., New Castle, Pa. 16101.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.
