Shirley J. Booker, 63, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of May 2, 2017, at her residence.
Born on July 5, 1953, in Clarksville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Dorothy Vance Parchman. Surviving at home is her beloved husband of 44 years, Stanley H. Booker, whom she married on Sept. 2, 1972.
Shirley owned and operated Booker's Daycare for the last 24 years. She was a member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob in Youngstown, Ohio. Shirley enjoyed gardening and crocheting, but the greatest love of her life was her daycare and helping children.
In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her children, Tenisha Booker, Stanley T. Booker and Ashley Booker, Rycoe Booker, Anthony and Kathy Booker, and Tenika Booker, all of New Castle; brothers, Billy Rae Parchman of Indiana and Carl Parchman of California; sisters, Trichie Ligon, Anita and Edward Lyles, both of New Castle, Dorothy and Bertel Adams of Evansville, Ind., and Vicki Bellamy of New Castle; 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Shirley Deshay Booker; sister, Lillie Sue Parchman; and brothers, George Washington Parchman and Clarence Robert Parchman Sr.
Visitation will be held Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. Services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Elder William Taylor.
Interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery.
