Thomas C. Elliott II, 93, of New Wilmington, formerly of East Moody Avenue, New Castle, passed away peacefully the evening of Monday, March 27, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Elliott was born Christmas Day in 1923, in New Castle, a son of the late Reuben and Hazel Anderson Elliott.
He graduated in 1940 from New Castle High School and then matriculated to Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
Thomas enlisted in the Army on Feb. 20, 1943, serving in both the North African and European theaters as an infantryman. He served under generals Omar Bradley and George Patton following the D-Day invasion, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 31, 1945.
Mr. Elliott retired as the president and secretary of Elliott Bros. Steel Co.
He was a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, St. Mary's Church.
Thomas was a lifelong member of the Castle Pistol Club, the Pennsylvania Club and the Lawrence County Sportsman Club; and a former member of the New Castle Country Club and the Lawrence Club.
He also served on the board of directors for First National Bank, National City Bank and the former St. Francis Hospital. Thomas is survived at home by his loving wife of more than 67 years, the former Mary Shuttleworth, whom he married on Oct. 2, 1948. Also surviving are seven children, Thomas Elliott and his wife, Patti, of New Castle, James Elliott and his wife, Debra, of Volant, Stephen Elliott and his wife, Bonnie, of New Wilmington, Moira Elliott of Light House Point, Florida, Quentin Elliott and his wife, Olof Sigmarsdottir, of Essex, Connecticut, Margrethe Elliott Rose and her husband, Scott, of New Wilmington, and Eric Elliott and his wife, Christine, of New Wilmington; 16 grandchildren, Christian (Shannon) Elliott, James (Kate) Elliott, Aaron (Jen) Elliott, Sean (Heather) Elliott, Adrien (Tyler) Domske, Dustin (Sara) Elliott, Jaclyn Elliott, Noah Elliott, Kyra Elliott (Roderick Seurattan), Anastasia Elliott, Tomas Elliott, Alex Speirs, David Leake (Lisa), Christie (Mark) Baker, Eric Elliott and Alanna Elliott; along with 12 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be private.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church, New Castle, officiated by the Rev. Joseph B. Codori, parochial vicar.
Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery, New Castle.
