Mr. William A. "Bill" Hunter, 83, a resident of Golden Hill Nursing Home, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at UPMC Jameson in New Castle. Bill was born in New Castle on Feb. 2, 1934, the son of the late Albert and Louise Grafus Hunter. Bill married the love of his life, Worthetta "Pinky" Sloan, on Jan. 26, 1952, and they celebrated 65 years of matrimony. Bill was a hard worker and was a produce manager for the former A&P Market for over 20 years. He then worked as a driver for several local companies until his retirement. His community involvement included membership and trustee for the Edinburg Methodist church until its closing. He also was lifelong member of the Mahoning Sportsman's Association. Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and archery. He had competed in archery competitions and had won several state titles.
Bill is survived by his wife, Worthetta; daughters, Janice Hosler of Bessemer and Susan Quimby (Patrick) of New Castle; a sister, Ethel Kneram (Gil) of Duvall, Wash.; grandchildren, Heidi Masters (Michael) of Bessemer, William Quimby (Ann) of New Castle, Gretchen Hosler of Dallas, Texas, and Caleb Quimby (Shelly) of New Castle. Bill also leaves behind four great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, Donald Hosler.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June Myer; and a grandson, Jonathan Quimby.
Family will receive visitors at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer, on Sunday, March 19, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m.
Funeral services are to be Monday, March 20, 2017, at the funeral home beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev Gary Dewitt assisted by the Rev. Howard Sloan.
