Alice M. Womer Obituary

New Castle, PA - We mourn the passing of our beloved mother, Alice, or as we liked to call her, Ma. Alice passed away the morning of July 11, 2026. She was born in New Castle on Aug. 27, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Agatha and William Lastoria.

Alice married the nicest man she ever met, Merle Womer, in 1976. They shared the type of true love you see in movies and read about in books. Together, they owned and operated the much-loved Alice's pizza shop in New Wilmington for many decades. They bought an RV and traveled throughout the country. Visiting their family was always a top priority.

Mom loved to play the slot machines and never missed an opportunity to visit Las Vegas, where her one daughter lived and an open slot machine awaited. They traveled often to Florida, Connecticut, California and North Carolina. A favorite vacation spot was Block Island, where many a lobster was eaten. Alice never turned down an opportunity to travel well into her later years.

Alice was a tremendous cook! A fan once said Alice could throw rocks in a pot and it would come out tasting great. She made the best eggplant Parmesan and also originated the "Roni Roll." She passed on those skills to her children, but no one ever surpassed her.

She had three siblings, Pat, Mary, and Barney and they were quite the crew. They liked nothing more than to laugh and laugh they did. No doubt they are cracking up in heaven.

Alice loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She had a gift of knowing who needed her most at times and she poured herself out for them. They each brought to her a unique kind of joy and they showered her with lots of love and teased her mercilessly, which made her roar with laughter.

Alice was a portrait of strength. She taught her family how to be independent and strong. It was a gift given to us by her. We love you now and we will miss you forever, our Alice from Buckingham Palace

She is survived by her incredible husband of 50 years, Merle Womer, who is 100 years old; her five children, Kiley Ferry Cozza (Jack), Robin Ferry Singer (Richard), Robert Ferrara Jr. (Dee), Leslie Ferry Pratt (Phil), Alison Ferry McGrath and her stepson Butch Womer. Her much-loved grandchildren, Rachel Pratt Caldwell (John), Megan Caffro Miller (Brandin), Robert Ferrara III, Charlotte Singer, Phillip Pratt (Minja), Francesca Ferrara, Clay Singer (Maddy), Daniel McGrath (Paige). Her step-grandchildren, Melanie Womer, Kenneth Womer Jr., Scott Womer, Kelly Womer; great-grandchildren, Carmalina, Jack, Paisley, Maris, Johnnie, Clark, Ellis and Julia, and many nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Agatha and William Lastoria; her siblings Pat Toscano, Mary Blakely and William "Barney" Lastoria Jr.; her stepson, Kenneth Womer and step-grandson Keith Womer.

Visitation will be on Thursday, 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S.
