Anita was born in New Castle, PA to the parents of George and Ruthe Coryea. Anita graduated from New Castle High School in 1958. She then pursued her education from Westminster College with a bachelors degree in biology in 1962.

Anita was very proud of her heritage, growing up in New Castle. Several family members were employed at Shenango China, and mom instilled in all six of her children and her sister, Gayle (Coryea) Collinsworth, to look for Shenango China at yard sales. The excitement was finding different patterns. Mom loved the Coney Island hot dog sauce, and would always buy extra when she would visit.
