New Castle - Anita L. Scarnati, 82, of Gale Street died Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born May 10, 1942, in New Castle, the daughter of the late Domenick and Lucy (Pizzitola) DeCaprio.
She married Anthony J. Scarnati on Jan. 9, 1965. He survives at home.
Anita worked for VanPort Sand & Gravel as a clerk for five years, then retired after 15 years at Liberty Mutual in central billing. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vitus Church. She loved praying and was very faith filled, and very active in the church. She loved music, dancing and old movies, and enjoyed cooking for her family.
Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Rita M. Ludovici and her husband, Vince, Renee L. DeBlasio and her husband, David, and Anthony J. Scarnati and his wife, Monica, all of New Castle; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Domenick DeCaprio Jr. and his companion, Lorraine Nellis; and three sisters, Jeanne Sesko and her husband, Tom, JoAnne Slater and her husband, William, and Vicki Flora and her husband, Denny.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant twin sister, Rita Mae DeCaprio.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vitus Church. Father Thomas Sparacino will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10 a.m.
