New Castle, PA - Anthony G. Mastrangelo, 89, of New Castle passed away the morning of Sept. 1, 2025, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Born in New Castle on May 4, 1936, Tony was the son of the late Louis and Dorothy Martucci Mastrangelo.

Tony was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Delores Saub on March 29, 2008. He is survived by his current wife, the former Constance May. The two were married on June 12, 2010.

Tony graduated from Youngstown State University with his bachelor's degree and then went on to receive his master's degree from Columbia University. He worked in health care his entire career as a hospital administrator and CEO for several different Catholic hospitals until his retirement. He then returned to his hometown and was elected mayor of New Castle and served three terms from 2008 to 2019.

Tony had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves for six years. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church.

Tony was very active in the community as a Mason 32nd Degree in the Mahoning Lodge of New Castle #243, served as a board member of LARK Enterprises, a member of the Italian American Club, NAACP, the Lawrence Club, New Castle Rotary and American Legion Post 343.

In addition to his wife, Tony is survived by his son, Eric Mastrangelo (Yoshie), his sister, Elaine LaFay, and one grandchild, Taku Mastrangelo.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Tony was preceded in death by his brother, George Mastrangelo.

Visitation will be on Thursday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Nicholas Mastrangelo will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
