Edinburg, PA - Anthony "Tony" William Safranic Sr., age 86, of Edinburg, Pennsylvania, passed away the early morning of March 15, 2025.

Born Dec. 5, 1938, in Pulaski, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Thomas and Clara Safranic.

On Sept. 30, 1964, he married his beloved wife, Mary Margaret "Peg" (Socie) Safranic. She preceded him in death.

Tony was a 1956 graduate of Union High School.

He served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was able to fly all over the world with C131s, U2s and B52s, even meeting Elvis and Priscilla Presley and Dolly Parton.

He was employed by General Motors, working as the maintenance superintendent clerk for 30 years.

You could often find Tony, "the vegetable guy," wearing his favorite Steelers cap working his stand at the blinker light on the corner of 422, where he shared not only his firewood and produce but also his wisdom and easy-going smile with anyone who stopped by.

What gave Tony the most joy were his hobbies of gardening, NASCAR, watching the Steelers play, camping and loving on his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a former member of St. James Church of New Bedford.

Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Ryder and Brenda McGlothin; two sons, Anthony William Safranic Jr. and Richard Safranic; one sister, Margaret Penwell; one brother, Frank Safranic; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Tom, John, Joey and George Safranic; and one sister, Mary Patterson.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Marcia Grimm officiating.

Burial will be with his wife at Lake Park Cemetery.
