Bette Jane Fister Obituary
Bette Jane Fister, 93, of West Middlesex passed away on Oct. 3, 2021, at Shenango on the Green after a brief illness.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1928, in Sharon to Mary (Hnida) Dudash and Andrew Dudash.
She graduated from West Middlesex High School.
Bette was a medical secretary for many years for Dr. Albert Luchette. After his retirement, she continued as a medical secretary with Dr. Gene Marcelli.
Bette occasionally attended Trinity Episcopal Church, New Castle, where her daughter was the organist and she loved to read books by Max Lucado.
Bette loved animals and raised puppies when her daughter was growing up. She did fundraising for the Mercer County Humane Society for more than 13 years and raised funds for them. She creatively decorated donation cans monthly and placed them in more than 50 businesses throughout Mercer County. She faithfully collected the donations each month with her rescue dog, Gus. Bette also made blankets for rescue animals and took them to Flynn Hillcrest Pet Funeral Home for distribution to rescue groups in our area. Her inspiration for the blankets was her other rescue dog, Mia, who loved to cuddle.
Bette also loved feeding the birds, squirrels, rabbits and anything that came in to her backyard.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Johnson, and her husband, Michael, of New Wilmington; her sister, Sandra Kimmel, and her husband, Barry, of Hermitage; and her granddogs, Zoomi and Daisy Bug.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Humane Society, the Lawrence County Humane Society or the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter.
